May 12-14, Max Hansen and Eric Winberg will attend the 22nd Annual Southeastern Professional Development Conference for Investigators, hosted by the Florida Association of Licensed Investigators (FALI) in Tampa. FALI has a long history of providing cutting edge education on topics relevant to investigators; the conference offers our investigators an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge while earning CEUs – that is, continuing education units – which are required to keep your PI license up to date under Alabama law.
Until a few years ago, Alabama private investigators were not required to have a license. The State of Alabama Private Investigation Board (APIB) was created to “regulate and license the practice of private investigation for the purpose of public protection.” The APIB website provides a number of useful resources:
- Consumers can check an current roster of Alabama licensed private investigators.
- Those who are seeking licensing as a private investigator in the state of Alabama can review requirements and obtain all the necessary forms.
- Investigators can look up license renewal requirements and claim their CEU credits.
PI licenses are renewable every two years, during which time a private investigator must earn 16 CEUs — two of which must be on Ethics.
This year’s conference schedule includes presentations on the latest topics of interest to private detectives, ranging from investigating officer involved shootings to a review of the latest smartphone apps and technology tools for the private eye. Featured speakers are experts in their respective areas:
- Probate Investigations
- Forensic Testimonial Evidence Recovery
- Surveillance
- and more
